Gwendoline originates from the comics of bondage artist John Willie, “The Adventures of Sweet Gwendoline” (1940s/50s). Die Ärzte referenced the character in their 1988 song “Sweet Sweet Gwendoline,” and band illustrator Schwarwel created this iconic skeleton version in 1993, which, alongside the classic version, still serves as the band’s official mascot today.
